About the society...

The collections are housed at Gordon-Roberts, 218 Washington Street, Cumberland, Maryland, and are used to develop exhibitions, programs, and events which relate to the history and traditions of the County and its peoples. The house is furnished in period furnishings and depicts the lifestyles of the two families who lived in the home. Judge Josiah Gordon, President of the C&O canal was the original owner and lived in the home for twenty years. The second family to live in the home was the W. Milnor Roberts family who lived in the home for sixty years and added modern conveniences such as indoor plumbing and an elevator which ran between first and second floor. Three floors of the home depict the manner in which the rooms were used as a home. Throughout the house exhibits pertaining to local history and customs and traditions of the era are changed at least two times a year.
