Parlor

The Parlor was the room the family used in the evenings and where they did their informal entertaining. The room with its dark wallpaper and layered curtains affords its occupants a cozy and safe haven. The courting couch, with its divided seating, is certainly an interesting piece of Rocco revival furniture. When a young suitor came to call upon one of the daughters of the household he was asked to have a seat on one end and the young lady took the seat on the other end while the center seat accomodated two chaperones very comfortably. The ornate Beethoven reed pump organ would fill the room with music while other family members would be reading the newspaper or sewing some fancy work. Don't be surprised if you meet a couple members of the Roberts family in this room.
